CSIRO Alumni panel – career advice for CERC Fellows

We heard from a panel of CSIRO Alumni talking about their career journeys after working at CSIRO.

As our fourth event in this series, it proved to be a great opportunity for our CERC Fellows to hear about roles outside of the organisation and potential career options. The speakers gave insights, advice and tips on life after CSIRO.

The event was hosted by Joey Man and Jonathan Ricetti who are two of our current CERC Fellows.

We had an introduction from Dr Ben Cao who is the CSIRO Senior Research Scientist and Group Leader of the Biology R&D Group

Dr Ben Cao obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry in 2011 from the University of Melbourne (Bio21 Institute) under the supervision of Professor Spencer Williams working on the total synthesis of mycobacterial glycolipids as novel agonists of natural killer T cells. He then joined CSIRO as an OCE Postdoctoral Fellow within the Stem Cell and Organic Chemistry groups working on the synthesis and development of small molecule hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) mobilisation agents. He is currently a Senior Research Scientist and Group Leader of the Biology R&D Group and is an adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Australian and Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI) at Monash University.

Dr Stephane Mangeon AVP at Moody’s ESG focusing on climate solutions

I was a CERC PostDoc fellow up until October 2021 in and I was doing environmental stats and data science. I’m now an AVP at Moody’s ESG focusing on climate solutions. ESG and particularly climate are making waves through financial markets at the moment and my job is to make sure these risks are appropriately taken into account. Dr Martin Bell Lecturer, School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, UTS
