Increasing the production of pulses will benefit people and planet

Hunger, poverty, soil degradation, and climate change: few crops can boast the ability to solve all of these challenges. Pulses add great benefits to the agrifood system and the environment, says the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. […] With the demand for protein set to double in places like Africa by 2050, Jose Barrero, a scientist at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), which is part of the project, said that the focus is on improving staple food crops, including cowpea, in some of the most disadvantaged and harsh landscapes on the planet.
