What’s the lowdown on the SKA-Low? Find out in a night of astronomical discussions!

15 August 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Geraldton is the gateway to one of the most ambitious science projects ever conceived – the SKA Observatory, or SKAO.

It is a mega-science facility with two radio telescopes being built in Australia and South Africa.

One of these telescopes – SKA-Low – will comprise more than 130,000 metal antennas and is being built right here at Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, the CSIRO Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory on Wajarri Country.

The SKAO telescopes, in Australia and South Africa, will revolutionise our understanding of the Universe. But the technology being developed – from engineering to supercomputing – promises to deliver global innovations that we haven’t even begun to imagine while putting the Mid West on the world stage.

Join us for a night of astronomy as we share the latest SKA updates, take a peek at the (visible) Universe with the help of our friendly astronomers with some optical telescopes, and enjoy some refreshments as we celebrate National Science Week in this public talk!

Supported by SKAO, CSIRO, ICRAR and the Museum of Geraldton.
