Dialogic Education Services – Dr Charlotte Pezaro
Dr Charlotte Pezaro is the Chief Executive Officer of Dialogic Education Services. Dialogic Education Services aims to build the confidence of P-10 teachers to teach science effectively. Dialogic professional learning opportunities for P-10 teachers in southeast Queensland and across Australia include workshops, webinars, and soon, online courses. School twilights and coaching are also available.
The organisation is borne of her expertise across science education, pedagogical content knowledge, dialogic argumentation, professional development, and decision making. Charlotte combines this with her passion for working with teachers to enable and empower them to make decisions about their teaching, especially in the areas of science and technology education.
Charlotte has worked for CSIRO Education and Outreach (twice!): as a Project Officer in Scientists in Schools (now STEM Professionals in Schools), and as a Science Specialist and Team Leader in the CREST Program. She remains passionate about the impact and opportunities both programs offer to teachers and students.
Charlotte was a teacher with Education Queensland, teaching in remote, regional, and city locations and in both primary and secondary classrooms from 2004 to 2010. Between 2010 and 2018, Charlotte developed and coordinated several courses in the initial teacher education programs at the University of Queensland, having a powerful positive impact upon the profession which DES continues.
She has also worked for the Queensland Studies Authority (now QCAA), and the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). She was a Senior Education Officer at Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE), leading the STEM and Mathematics teams in their work to support teachers across the BCE network of schools. Across all these experiences, Charlotte has facilitated professional learning workshops and seminars for teachers for more than a decade.
In 2021, Charlotte was seconded to ACARA to provide her expertise in the major review of the Australian Curriculum: Science.
Charlotte has a PhD in science education from the University of Queensland, completed in 2018. In her research, she examined the claim made in many curriculum documents around the world that “learning science helps people to make good decisions.”
