Managing electricity system security and reliability with increased renewable generation

October 16 - October 18

The issue

Decarbonising the electricity sector will be driven by increasing the share of renewable energy. This change in generation mix creates a range of challenges and implications for the operation, management, and planning of future electricity systems and networks.

This workshop will share Australian-led research outcomes addressing the most crucial system operation and network design challenges that are presented by the decarbonisation of energy systems. Industry researchers and experts will discuss topics that are assisting Australia to maintain system security and reliability throughout the energy transition, which include:

  • Inverter-based resources
  • Stability tools and methods
  • Control room of the future
  • Power system planning
  • Management of distributed energy resources
  • Black start and restoration
  • Power system architectures
  • Distributed Energy Resources and stability
