Energy Systems Planning

September 8th, 2025

During the week of 26 August, the Energy Systems program hosted an energy transition workshop with experts from around the globe.

Luke Robinson from Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) facilitated the opening day panel and gave the keynote. UK expert Dr Xiaoyao Zhou (National Energy System Operator) and Brad Bouillon from California ISO gave presentations. Other speakers included representatives from DCCEEW, UNSW, SAPN, several Southeast Asian organisations, and of course CSIRO.

The three-day event explored how robust planning processes are essential for ensuring the security, affordability, and reliability of our electricity systems in Australia and overseas.

Australia is committed to having 82 per cent renewable energy in its electricity grids by 2030, building a low-emissions energy system for all Australians. To ensure the security, affordability, and reliability of our electricity systems, we’re working with our Southeast Asian neighbours to support improved electricity system and network planning across the region.
