Collections plus science equals national impact

May 10th, 2022

Staff at the National Research Collections Australia (NRCA) are developing new technologies to solve national problems.

Our National Research Collections Australia hold 15 million specimens, from trays of Culex mosquitoes belonging to yet unnamed species, to sharks preserved in tanks of ethanol, to living cultures of microalgae.

These specimens tell the story of the biodiversity of Australia and the region: what it is, where it lives and how it has changed over time. But this story is not one for museums.

Instead, we’re writing a future for collections where we develop new technologies to solve national problems.
