Could your project build Australia’s research industry workforce?

January 17th, 2023

Applications are now open for eligible projects to be part of the Industry PhD program in 2023.

The program brings together an industry partner, a university researcher and a CSIRO researcher to co-develop a project that will run for four years.

Our website has information you can share with prospective partners at universities, in industry and with students as you start developing project ideas.

Projects will include a full scholarship ($45,000 each year), project operating expenses, and funds for additional candidate training, with the industry partner required to contribute a top-up scholarship.

Through the program, PhD candidates will complete their PhD project, a three-month Industry Engagement Component, and a tailored development program curated by CSIRO.

Project requirements include:

  • Align with CSIRO and Government priorities
  • Address an industry problem while complying with the university’s requirements of a PhD program
  • Be with an Australian industry partner or a company with an Australian presence (Government and Not-for-profit are excluded)
  • Include at least a 3 month Industry Engagement Component, conducting research under the guidance of the industry partner.

The expansion of our iPhD program was announced as part of the Government’s University Research Commercialisation Action Plan.

It aims to grow Australia’s pipeline of industry-ready STEM graduates who can turn science into solutions to create a better future for Australia, as well as strengthening collaboration between research and industry.
