Deadly ‘ghost nets’ increase in Gulf of Carpentaria despite years of clean-ups

Targeted action is needed to combat the growing issue of “ghost nets” in the Gulf of Carpentaria, researchers say. […] The study’s lead author, Dr Denise Hardesty of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, is calling for coordinated monitoring efforts to remove ghost nets before they arrive in the “high biodiversity region” of the Gulf of Carpentaria.
