Mentoring NOW Session #11 – Balancing your research passion with CSIRO mission

30 August 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Mentoring NOW are virtual meetings once a month via WebEx that connect diverse individuals to share specific insights on topics of interest related to the workplace; more details.

Our guest is Michiel Van Lookeren Campagne, Director of CSIRO Agriculture and Food. In this session, he will be in conversation with Dr Ha Truong, Research Scientist – Aquaculture Nutrition, Livestock & Aquaculture Program. The discussion will centre around how we can balance our research passion in CSIRO with CSIRO research missions/future platforms.

More about the guest speaker

Michiel van Lookeren Campagne joined CSIRO in June 2019. Previously he was Head of Seeds Research at Syngenta, based in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina, USA. More about the session host

Ha Truong currently holds a Research Scientist position in Aquaculture Nutrition at the Bribie Island Research Centre, CSIRO. Her projects include novel feed ingredient development and evaluation with a focus on their effect on feeding behaviour and utilisation of nutrient. Ha completed a B Animal and Veterinary Bioscience, with Honours, at the University of Sydney in 2013 before completing a PhD at the Poultry Research Foundation, Sydney School of Veterinary Sciences under the supervision of A/Prof Peter Selle and Dr. Sonia Liu where Ha’s research was in the digestion dynamics of starch and protein where broiler chickens were the principle model. Ha successfully completed Research Fellow projects at Bribie Island Research Centre CSIRO, where Ha applied similar concepts to aquaculture species, in particular prawns. Now, as a Research Scientist, Ha researches nutrition in aquaculture to increase the understanding of nutrient utilisation in aquaculture species and develop more tools to assess feed quality.
