Women in Research: The glass cliff phenomenon: Unique challenges of female leaders and how to address them.

10 November 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Professor  Alex Haslam and Professor Michelle Ryan initially coined the phrase ‘glass cliff’ in a 2005 paper to describe a phenomenon women face when they break through the glass ceiling into senior management positions, but often only when the organisation is struggling and performing poorly.

“In this way, such women can be seen to be placed on top of a ‘glass cliff’, in the sense that their leadership appointments are made in problematic organisational circumstances and are therefore more precarious.”
– Professor Alex Haslam and Professor Michelle Ryan

With ARC Laureate Fellow Alex Haslam as our guest speaker, this 11th webinar of the “Small Wins” series will bring unique insights from one of the academics that helped identify the phenomenon, and has spent over a decade researching its causes and ways to combat it.

ARC Laureate Fellow Alex Haslam will give a broad overview of the topic and share some of his findings. ARC Laureate Fellow Sharon Parker will host the webinar and moderate questions from the audience.

We hope to see you online!
