Pint of Science festival – volunteers & speakers

February 17th, 2025

Present your research to the Australian public

The Pint of Science festival, held annually in May, offers researchers the opportunity to engage with their local community and share their recent work in a relaxed and casual pub environment.

We love having researchers from all discipline areas and levels of experience and want the community where you work or live, to hear and learn about what you do!

Our events are grouped in the following themes, to capture the broad scope of what we call science:

  • Atoms to Galaxies: physics, chemistry, maths and astronomy
  • The Mind: neuroscience, psychology and psychiatry
  • The Body: medicine, human biology and health
  • Society: law, history, politics, policy and languages
  • Planet Earth: geosciences, botany and zoology
  • Technology: biotechnology, robotics and computers

Outside of the festival, Pint AU engages with researchers to share their science through podcast and blog articles.

Expressions of Interest for our 2025 Annual Festival are Open Now.

Volunteer on our Local Team

Our Local Teams operate in the events environment in the lead-up to, and during the annual festival. As a member of a local team, you’ll work with volunteers in your local city or town and receive support and direction from the National Team to deliver the annual Pint of Science festival across Australia.

We offer both longer-term roles and one-off, on-the-night positions to support the success of our annual May festival.

City Coordinator Roles

The City Coordinator is responsible for driving and delivering the annual Pint of Science Australia festival in their city or town. City Coordinators lead and coordinate a team of local volunteers in their city, including allocating members to roles, supporting them in sourcing venues and speakers, arranging communications and assisting with the promotion of their local event with available resources.

City Coordinator applications for the 2025 Annual Festival have closed. If you’re interested in leading an event for our 2026 Annual Festival, applications are expected to open in October 2025.

For all other local team roles…

If you’re interested in our other festival-focused volunteer roles, including event coordination, on-the-night and MC, complete an expression of interest using the form below.

Please note that completing an EOI form only expresses your interest and does not commit you to volunteer at the festival. You will hear back from us closer to the festival to confirm your availability and interest.

If you have any questions, get in touch.
